radical vaginectomy for tumors of the external genitalia. Dr. Lakkis administers cytotoxic chemotherapy, performs brachytherapy, and oversees radiation therapy per protocols approved by
the GOG. All patients are entered in a tumor registry that insures total care of the cancer patient and offers
opportunities for improved care. MILS Minimally Invasive Laparoscopic Surgery (MILS) for the treatment of patients with gynecologic
malignancies offers select patients the opportunity to have 1) complete
surgical staging without the morbidity associated with
traditional staging and 2)
interval surgical staging if the initial surgery did not include
adequate evaluation of the abdominal cavity, pelvic and aortic lymph nodes.
In cervical cancer MILS is focused on those patients with advanced disease,
stages II to IV. In endometrial cancer MILS serves to complete the staging of
inadequate primary surgery. In ovarian
cancer MILS offers reassessment surgery post chemotherapy. Urinary Stress Incontinence Advanced transvaginal surgery
for uterine prolapse and urinary incontinence that includes modern techniques
such as Vaginally-assisted Laparoscopic Hysterectomy (TVH) and Tension-free
Vaginal Tape
(TVT). These state-of-the-art techniques insure the highest success rates with
the least invasive procedure. There is a marked reduction of hospital stay,
recuperation period, and undesirable post-operative effects. Patients can
ambulate, eat, and feel minimal pain right after the surgery. |
